THE AWARD

National Honours are awarded twice a year to mark the New Year and His Majesty The King’s Official Birthday in June. Honours are announced via the Honours Lists, which are published via the London Gazette, weblink below. Anyone can receive an award if they reach the required standard of merit or service.

National Honours include: Knighthoods, Damehoods, CBEs, OBEs, MBEs, BEMs.
For further information on the differences between these awards, please use this London Gazette weblink.

Please note Peerages are not Honours. These are handled by The House of Lords Appointments Commission.

How to Apply?

Anyone can nominate someone for an honour. There is a useful Guide to writing honours citations on the National Honours website, see below. If you need further guidance, please contact us by email using the Lieutenancy email address.
